According to our product records, moisture is 15% - 20% (dry) in dry oak and 25% - 30% in six-month oak. Six-month oak is cheaper; it suits you if your flue draws well or you can leave the wood to season in your own store. If you are going to burn it straight away, choose dry oak.
Yellow Oak and Red Oak Compared
Both are dense-grained oak stove woods whose embers last a long time. According to our product descriptions, yellow oak has the densest grain of the oak varieties; red oak is also a strong stove wood that keeps a fire in for a long time overnight.
Yellow oak is sold in 30 kg bags and red oak in 28 kg bags; both can also be bought loose (minimum 500 kg loose). Loose is cheaper than bagged; the comparison is in the table above.
