The Sierra S 238 cm is the oven-free, flat-barbecue version of Petra Classic's cabin outdoor kitchens. Its 238 cm wide cabin brings together an open grill under a hood, a sink counter and cupboard modules. Who it is for: medium villa gardens; anyone wanting a sheltered cooking area all year. Highlights: standard equipment in the range includes composite cladding in 10 colours, a powered piston front lid that opens into a canopy, an external electrical panel gathering the 220 V supply, a cooking grill on stepped rails, a 1 m square flue with a 25×25 cm section, a stainless sink and tap, LED strip lighting and an open log store with a prep shelf. Sierra has no oven; all cooking is done on the grill. Extras such as a wall cupboard, roller shutter, grill lift or flue fan are priced separately. Installation and safety: the Sierra S 238 cm is a garden kitchen; connected to a flue, it can also be used indoors. Despite the lidded cabin, keep the front open while a fire burns and make sure the flue draws freely. Without a flue connection, do not place it in an enclosed bay, conservatory or glazed area; carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless. Indoors, have a fitter check the flue connection and draught, and use a carbon monoxide detector. Have the electrical connection made by a qualified electrician on an earthed circuit with a residual-current device. Keep the flue outlet clear of branches and flammable covers. The cabin is built in one piece at the workshop, so a crane or forklift may be needed to unload it on site; access is discussed before ordering. What to look for in a garden barbecue

Space and size

Measure the width, depth and height (including the chimney) of the spot. For sets with worktops, allow room for doors and drawers to open.

Ground

Choose level, firm, non-combustible ground (concrete, stone, tiles). Lock the wheels of wheeled models while in use.

With or without an oven?

Choose a model with an oven for pizza, pide and baked dishes; a barbecue without an oven is enough for grilling only. The oven needs the fire to burn for a while to heat up.

Worktop, sink and cabinets

Outdoor kitchen sets put a prep worktop, sink and cabinets next to the barbecue. The sink needs water and drainage, the lighting needs electricity.

Smoke and neighbours

Place the chimney where the wind will not carry smoke into windows or a neighbour's garden. Dry wood and good charcoal make less smoke.

Safe use
