We will not answer "how much do pine pellets cost?" with a number in this article, because an honest answer is not a single number. The price of pine pellets changes with the raw material, the season, the quantity you buy and your address; that is why we do not publish it on the site and send the current price on WhatsApp instead. Below we explain what sets the price and how to compare two quotes properly.
1. Raw material: sawdust
Pellets are made from sawdust and chips, by-products of sawmills and the wood-processing industry. ENplus class A1 pellets may only be made from stem wood and chemically untreated by-products of that industry. In other words the raw material is someone else's leftover: when timber and furniture production falls, or other buyers compete for sawdust, raw material becomes scarcer and dearer. That is the first source of movement in the producer's price.
2. Production: drying and pressing
Sawdust is dried, ground, pressed under high pressure, cooled and screened. Drying and pressing take energy; when energy costs change, so does the cost of pellets.
3. Quality class and certificate
Pellets with the ENplus A1 seal and pellets of unknown class are not the same product. Class A1 sets limits such as at most 0.7% ash and at least 98.0% mechanical durability, and the producer is audited to meet them and keep the certificate. When comparing prices, look for the ENplus ID number printed on the bag, not for the words "A1 quality". It is no surprise when a bag with no number, or one that is not in the ENplus list, is cheap.
4. Season
Pellets are a heating fuel; demand rises in autumn and peaks in mid-winter. Delivery times can lengthen in mid-season too. Two practical suggestions:
- If you have somewhere dry to keep them, buy before the season. Both price and delivery day are easier to arrange.
- If you do not, buy in parts. Pellets left for months in a damp place take up moisture and crumble; cheap pellets that have spoiled are expensive. For storage see how to store pellets.
5. A few bags or a pallet?
The unit price differs between a few bags and a pallet load: with a large order the vehicle is filled in one trip, and labour and haulage per kilogram fall. We sell pine pellets in 15 kg and 20 kg bags; orders of 1,200 kg or more are delivered as bags on pallets. For your sums: one ton is about 67 bags of 15 kg, or 50 bags of 20 kg; 1,200 kg is 80 bags of 15 kg, or 60 bags of 20 kg.
When comparing bag prices, always check how many kilograms the bag holds; the price of a 15 kg bag cannot be compared directly with that of a 20 kg bag. The soundest way is to convert every quote to a price per kilogram.
6. Delivery distance
Pellets are heavy and bulky, so haulage is an important part of the delivered price. Our depot is in Ödemiş, İzmir, and we deliver to addresses within 350 km by road. Ödemiş, Tire, Bayındır, Kiraz and Beydağ are in our free delivery area; within İzmir Province we also charge no delivery fee on orders of 5 tons or more. Elsewhere the delivery fee depends on quantity and distance and is given with the quote.
When you get a quote, always ask: is the price ex depot or delivered? Is haulage separate? Is VAT included?
Comparing two quotes properly
The pellets with the lower price per kilogram do not always heat more cheaply. What you should compare is the cost of the heat you get:
Cost of 1 kWh of useful heat = price per kg ÷ (calorific value, kWh/kg × appliance efficiency)
In the ENplus classes the net calorific value is at least 4.6 kWh/kg; with uncertified pellets you cannot know what it is. Damp, dusty or high-ash pellets give less heat per kilogram and mean cleaning the stove more often. A short checklist:
- How many kilograms is the bag, and what is the price per kilogram?
- Does the bag carry the ENplus quality seal and ID number, and which class?
- Does the diameter suit your appliance (6 mm / 8 mm)?
- Is the price delivered, and are haulage and VAT included?
- What is the delivery day?
